BOX THE HOUSE
I´m interested in questioning production, distribution and consumption patterns of products. I want to explore when and why do we call something “new”. I feel this idea is mostly associated to some specific sensorial experiences, very tied to the standards about newness imposed by the industry. The more we buy, the more we are involved in unfair circuits, consuming the narratives of the new, which generally avoid talking about processes and people. Buying the new reduces our ability of making decisions and unfolding our own stories in the spaces we inhabit.

I built furniture for my house reusing cardboard boxes. This exercise is a material representation of the nuances of the concept ´new´, that challenge the practicality that comes with buying, by slowing down the process and appreciating its uncertainty and technical limitations.

I envision critical making practices as mechanisms for communities to rethink the way they engage with the material world and how it gets filled with meaning and notions of ownership.
